Community Giving Day Proclamations!

We are sharing some exciting news! Three communities in Mecosta County have created proclamations that December 2nd is “Community Giving Day!”

Some background and the meaning of the proclamations.

Mecosta County is a sturdy community. Residents support, uplift and treat with pride, the nonprofit organizations that are the safety nets for the most vulnerable among us. Community members encourage the work of local nonprofit organizations by donating their time, talent, and money.

However, during this unprecedented year, many nonprofit organizations have struggled to find ways to raise funds. Organizations, such as the Big Rapids Lions and the Big Rapids Rotary, that typically support the nonprofits, have lost their sources and opportunities to fundraise and have not been able to assist financially as in past years.  In a collaborative effort between the BR Lion’s and BR Rotary, a team of volunteers came together to address the fundraising void and developed “Giving Day 2020 – Mecosta County.”  The purpose of “Giving Day” is to bring nonprofits together in a virtual event that will help those organizations with fundraising efforts.

Understanding our area residents’ history of unselfish giving and the critical need for a common way to reach out to the community during this pandemic, local governments, including City of Big Rapids, Morton Township, and Mecosta County Board of Commissioners, have embraced the area nonprofits by proclaiming Wednesday, December 2, 2020, as GIVING DAY 2020 – MECOSTA COUNTY.  Residents are encouraged to recognize the positive impact of giving time, talent, and money to non-profit organizations in our county.
